Today we are thrilled to announce that Veo has been selected by the City of New York as one of only three companies selected to launch dockless e-scooters in the largest city in America. This is a big step forward for Veo, but it also marks a historic milestone for the industry as a whole.

The micromobility industry, while still very young in the grand scheme of things, has weathered the early Wild West days, the boom-and-bust days of massive valuations that disappeared within a year, and the shock to the system brought on by the pandemic and lockdowns across the globe. But today, the industry enters a new era, one marked by smarter device designs and informed regulations, sustainable business practices, and collaboration with cities instead of confrontation. And one marked by new faces and industry leaders.

With Veo’s selection in the most competitive market in America, we are honored to be recognized as one of the new leaders in this next era for the micromobility industry.

So why did Veo rise to the top?

Veo has a lot in common with New York City. When it comes to big decisions, we take our time to get it right. Showering streets with frail hardware hurts everyone. That’s never been our way. We obsess over design, and we manufacture the highest quality vehicles in-house. We are engineers and e-mobility aficionados. So when it comes to the most complex transportation ecosystem in the world, we know that a slower, more thoughtful approach is necessary. Alongside NYC DOT, we look forward to launching responsibly, taking our lead from the local community, and then improving our program based on the data.

Speaking of which, we also share NYC DOT’s interest in gathering meaningful data and research so we can innovate to meet the specific needs of the community. With our fine-tuned GPS tracking system and anonymized data sets, we can provide NYC DOT and East Bronx leadership with critical information about the pilot to fine-tune our rollout for the people who need it most. We can use this data to help fill gaps in access to transit — linking to services, jobs, and the City at large.

This pilot is not just about access to socially distanced transit options, although that’s a big bonus. It’s about creating a fully thought-out, flagship program that can serve as an example of micromobility done right for cities around the world.

So, what stood out about Veo’s application in a crowded field of micromobility companies? We believe it is our attention to quality, not quantity. Service, not speed to market. Our device designs are environmentally sustainable, durable, safe, and comfortable — and soon, New Yorkers will have three new standing, seated, and accessible designs to fit any distance. Our innovations include:

  1. E-swappable batteries to reduce miles driven by recharging and rebalancing teams;
  2. Turn signals for safe riding in mixed traffic with cars and at night;
  3. Comfortable seating for distance rides and riders of varying abilities

As the only female co-founded and run micromobility company in the industry, Veo has taken a fundamentally different approach to building our company and conducting ourselves than every other operator in the field. Our Midwestern roots have allowed us to see through the Silicon Valley aggressiveness which made Veo the first truly profitable micromobility company. We have been in over 40 markets, including an upcoming launch in New Rochelle, just next door. Being financially sound is the only way to run a business responsibly. Call us less aggressive, sure, but we stay where we launch with high-quality vehicles and dispatch for demand, not simply to outpace a competitor.

We are in it for the long haul, and we are listening. Bronx riders, what do you need to get into a helmet and off to where you want to be?
